Today is officially the day I start working on my career as an artist. I have worked in the business world, and as a business owner, but my day job always has gotten in the way of my true passion to be an artist. I have been working at changing that, but along the way, life always gets in the way of my art, putting focus on everything else as a priority except for my creativity. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy owning a retail flower shop and designing with flowers, which does allow for me to be creative, but it's usually somewhat restrictive, and frequently on other people's terms, because I have to design what they want within a price they are willing to pay. This limits me, not to mention that there is not much permanence to flowers, so the designs I create are only available to enjoy for a week or two until they fade and die.
I have committed to changing the focus of my day and making time to create at least one small piece of art daily. As I work through this challenge, I will take readers with me in this blog, and show you the art pieces I create, and discuss my inspirations for subject matter, and the challenges I face along the way.
Signing off for now, but will be back in a day or two with my first creation.
My name is Barbara Lucas-Yost. I am a Professional Floral Designer, but I have a passion for creating art, not just in floral design, but with many types of media including pencil, paint and pastels. I am starting this blog to chronicle my journey into daily painting. Up until now, painting and drawing has been my pastime, but I am beginning to do art daily, and will blog about it and post photos of my works here.
