First Artwork, "Tropical Fantasy"

Well, here is my first official piece of art work since I started this blog.  It is titled, "Tropical Fantasy" and is Acrylic on canvas, 12" x 12".  This painting is a happy experiment.  I don't usually work with spray paint, I'm much more into painting with a brush, however, I had a sample can of Liquitex Acrylic spray paint, and I wanted to see what I could do with it.  The spray paint is all of the red you see in the painting, and I just began to build off the shapes I sprayed with standard acrylic paint and a brush.  This turned into a bit of abstract, but notes of realism.  The branch inspired me to drop in a few birds, which reminded me of the ocean, which is loosely interpreted in the background with the focus of the scene being the mound of tropical style flowers in the foreground.

I am pleased with the direction this painting went, and it allowed me to let my mind wonder.  I will be joining the website www.dailypaintworks.com in the next week and this piece along with others I am working on will be available for purchase there if you are interested.

Thank you for viewing my blog, I'll be back very soon to post my next painting that I'm working on, stay tuned!

A New Beginning

Today is officially the day I start working on my career as an artist.  I have worked in the business world, and as a business owner, but my day job always has gotten in the way of my true passion to be an artist.  I have been working at changing that, but along the way, life always gets in the way of my art, putting focus on everything else as a priority except for my creativity.  Don't get me wrong, I enjoy owning a retail flower shop and designing with flowers, which does allow for me to be creative, but it's usually somewhat restrictive, and frequently on other people's terms, because I have to design what they want within a price they are willing to pay.  This limits me, not to mention that there is not much permanence to flowers, so the designs I create are only available to enjoy for a week or two until they fade and die.

I have committed to changing the focus of my day and making time to create at least one small piece of art daily.  As I work through this challenge, I will take readers with me in this blog, and show you the art pieces I create, and discuss my inspirations for subject matter, and the challenges I face along the way.

Signing off for now, but will be back in a day or two with my first creation.
